Going Deep!! Runes in Everyday Life: How Can They Be Used in Practice?

Runes in Everyday Life: How Can They Be Used in Practice?
When people hear the word “runes”, many may think of mysterious letters from ancient Scandinavia, filled with magical power and the ability to foretell the future. However, if we look deeper, runes are not merely symbols of mysticism. In our daily lives, we can also draw upon their meanings to inspire us and help bring order to our minds.

1. Using Runes as “Reminder Symbols”
In today’s world, where we are surrounded by countless distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of our small personal goals. One way to stay focused is to write a rune symbol on a piece of paper and place it on your desk or inside your journal. For example, the rune Fehu, which represents wealth and progress, can serve as a reminder to pay more attention to your finances and career. It’s similar to putting up a motivational quote sticker—but instead, you use a stylish symbol with a deeper meaning.

2. Using Runes in Art and Decoration
Many Thai people enjoy decorating their homes or workspaces with objects that carry auspicious meanings. Runes can be used in a similar way. For instance, you might draw the rune Algiz, which represents protection, on a notebook, a phone case, or small decorative items. It works much like placing a sacred symbol or charm for good luck—only this time, it brings a touch of Western atmosphere.

3. Using Runes as a “Meditation Tool”

On days when your mind feels cluttered, try choosing a rune symbol and reflecting on its meaning while breathing slowly and deeply. For example, the rune Ansuz, which is associated with communication and wisdom, can serve as a focal point when you need clarity of thought. In this way, viewing a rune is somewhat similar to using a kasina—a meditation object in Thai tradition—as a means to calm and center the mind.

4. Using Runes as “Daily Inspiration”
Many Thai people enjoy drawing tarot cards or checking daily horoscope services from apps. As an alternative, you might try “drawing a daily rune.” For example, in the morning, pick one rune at random and read its meaning to use as guidance for the day. If you draw the rune Raido, which symbolizes journeys and change, you could interpret it as a sign that today is a good time to explore something new or shift away from old ways of thinking.

5. Using Runes in Creative Activities
Sometimes writing a journal, drawing, or engaging in art can be a relaxing activity. Runes can also serve as a source of inspiration. For example, you might use the rune Berkano, which represents rebirth and gentleness, as the theme for an artwork or a piece of writing. In this way, runes can become companions on our creative journey.

Conclusion
Although runes are ancient letters from distant lands, they are not so different from the sacred symbols we are familiar with, such as protective charms, birth flowers, or auspicious words in Thai culture. Instead of seeing them as something far removed from our lives, we can open our hearts and use runes as companions in our daily journey. There’s no need to expect magical results—using them simply as small sources of inspiration that bring peace and brightness to the mind is more than enough.
